Challenge Games Overview


  • Challenge games allow players to compete against each other in closest to the pin or long drive games.
  • Your license must include the Challenge Events product to play.
  • Points are awarded during game play based on the scoring type set - either by the player’s shot distance or the player’s rank for the hole.
  • At the end of the game, the overall winner is displayed along with the final results for each player.

Start Challenge Game



  • To begin a Challenge game, click PLAY at the Main Menu screen.
  • You will be taken to the Player List screen to select your players and options for the game.
  • To select players for a challenge game, click Add Players. 
  • At the Add Player screen, select up to eight players for the game. 
  • After you have finished selecting your players, click OK to return to the Members screen.
  • Choose either the close to pin challenge or long drive challenge scoring option.
  • Note: Your license key must include the challenge game product to play a challenge game.
  • Click Next to go to the challenge setup screen. 
  • A challenge game can also be started from the Scoring screen.  
  • At the Scoring screen, select either the closest to pin or long drive scoring type then click Next.

Challenge Game Setup Screen



Before starting your challenge game, select from the following options:


  • Sound Menu (top right - speaker icon) - The following sound options are available:
  • Crowd Reaction
  • Event Sounds
  • Music - You can also adjust the music volume here. 
  • Course (top left) - Select the course you wish to play by clicking on the course graphic at the upper left of the screen to bring up the course list - then select the course to play.
  • Shot Limit (top right) - Select the shot limit for the event.
  • Skill Level (below shot limit) - Select to turn the skill level option to either yes (on) or no (off).  If the skill level is on, the skill level values set for your player will be applied during the game.
  • Scoring (below skill level) -  Select how to accumulate points for a challenge game.  Scoring types are:
  • distance - Points are awarded based on the actual distance of the player’s shot.
  • For a closest to pin game: The player with the lowest number of points overall wins the game. 
  • Note:  If the player’s shot distance is greater than 100 feet, a maximum of 100 points will be added to the player’s total.
  • For a long drive game: The player with the highest number of points wins the game.
  • If a player’s shot is invalid, 100 points will be added to the total.
  • rank - Points are awarded based on the player’s ranking for that hole. The player with the highest overall accumulated points wins the game.
  • For a closest to pin game:  The player with the lowest distance for the hole wins first place and the most points. 
  • For a long drive game:  The player with the highest distance for the hole wins first place and the most points.
  • Points are awarded as follows:
  • First Place - 50 points
  • Second Place - 30 points
  • Third Place - 20 points
  • 4th - 8th - 10 points
  • If  rank scoring is selected and the player’s shot is invalid, no points are awarded.
  • Mulligans (below scoring) - Turn mulligans on or off.
  • Fairway Required (below mulligans) - Only for long drive games. 
  • If fairway required is set to yes, a shot must land in the fairway, approach, fairway/rough, or green to be valid.

Challenge Game Setup Screen



After selecting your game options, choose a challenge game to play in either the Challenge Options or Saved Custom Challenges menu list.


  • In the Challenge Options menu list (top center), select the game you wish to play then click Load or Tee Off.
  • Clicking Load will take you to the Create Custom Challenge screen where you have the option to edit your round before play.
  • Clicking Tee Off will take you directly to the challenge round.  
  • For a closest to pin challenge, the following games are available:
  • Par 3 Challenge - Click to start a game with all Par 3 holes selected.
  • Eagle Challenge - Click to start a game with all Par 4 holes selected.  Players have two shots to hit the green.
  • Obstacle Challenge - Play 4 - 5 pre-set challenging shots to reach the green.
  • Sand Challenge - Play challenging shots that all originate in bunkers.
  • Water Challenge - Play challenging shots over water hazards.
  • For a long drive challenge, the following game is available:
  • Par 5 Challenge - Click to start a game with all Par 5 holes selected.
  • In the Saved Custom Challenges menu list (bottom center), choose a previously saved challenge game.
  • To play an existing custom challenge game:
  • Select the round you wish to play in the Saved Custom Challenges list.
  • Click Load or Tee Off to start the custom round.
  • Clicking Load will take you to the Create Custom Challenge screen where you have the option to edit your round before play.
  • Clicking Tee Off will take you directly to the custom stroke round.  
  • To create a new custom challenge game:
  • Click the Create Custom Challenge button at the bottom left.
  • Select the options you wish to use then choose Tee Off to start the game, or choose Save Challenge to save the game for play at a later time.
  • Note: If the shot limit set for your custom challenge game does not match the shot limit set at the setup screen, you will be asked what value you wish to use before starting your saved custom challenge game.

Custom Challenge Games


To create a custom challenge game, choose Create Custom Challenge at the challenge setup screen. You have the option to select the course, course holes, tee location, pin location, weather conditions, and shot limit for your custom challenge game.  You also have the option to save your custom game for play at a later time. 


Setup Custom Challenge Game



  • At the Player List screen, choose either the close to pin challenge or long drive challenge scoring option.
  • Choose NEXT to go to the setup screen.
  • At the setup screenclick on Create Custom Challenge.
  • At the create custom challenge screen, you have the option to select the following for your game:
  • Course - Click the course icon to display a list of installed courses, then click the one you wish to play.
  • Hole(s) to Play - For a closet to pin game, all Par 3 holes will be selected. For a long drive game, all Par 5 holes will be selected. To select/de-select holes for play, click on any hole to display the Select Tee Location menu. Only holes available for the course can be selected.  For example:  Only the Front 9 holes are available for the Preserve course so only holes 1 – 9 can be selected for play.
  • Pin/Fairway Required
  • For Closest to Pin games - Select the pin location.
  • For Long Drive games - Select to turn on/off the Fairway Required option.  
  • Ground - Select the ground type.  This option will affect the carry/ball rolling physics in the event.
  • Sky - Select the sky view.
  • Green Stimp - Select the green speed.  The default value is 8.5.
  • You can change the default setting in the StimpMeterDefault.txt file in the Friendly Software\World Tours Golf\aG Simulator folder.
  • Shot Limit - Select the maximum number of shots allowed for the challenge game.  When the shot limit is reached, no additional shots can be taken during the game.
  • Wind Direction - Select the wind direction.
  • Wind Speed - Select the wind speed.
  • Time - Set the time of day.
  • Tee - Set the tee location for ALL holes selected for the game. If you wish to set different tee locations for each hole, click on the hole number to bring up the Select Tee Location menu to select the tee location for that hole. You also have the option to set a custom tee location per each hole. 
  • Skill Level - Select yes to turn the skill level option on. If on, the skill level set for your player will be applied to shots for the challenge game.
  • Sound Control - At the upper right of the screen, you have the option to adjust the game sounds.

 Start a Custom Challenge Game

 

  • After setting up your custom challenge game, choose Tee Off to start the game, or select Save Challenge to save your game to play later.
  • Once your custom challenge game has been saved, it will display at the setup screen in the Saved Custom Challenges window. To select the saved challenge round for play, highlight it in the list and click Load or Tee Off below the menu window. If you click Load you can edit your game before playing it.
  • If you forget to save your game at the Create Custom Challenge screen before you Tee Off, you have the option to save it again after returning to the setup screen.
  • In the Saved Custom Challenges menu list:
  • Select the --LastCustomCTP--  or the --LastCustomLD-- game.
  • Choose Load.
  • At the Create Custom Challenge screen, choose Save Challenge to save the last custom game you created.

Custom Challenge Games


 Copy Custom Challenge Game to a Different Simulator


Once you create a custom challenge game, you have the option to copy that game to another simulator.


To copy a custom challenge game:


  • At the closest to pin or long drive challenge setup screen, choose Create Custom Challenge.
  • Select the course, holes and game options and choose Save Challenge.
  • Enter a name for your challenge game and click OK.
  • The challenge game will be created in the Friendly Software\World Tours Golf\RoundStats folder with a *.chc or *.chl  extension.
  • The *.chc file indicates a closest to pin challenge game.
  • The *.chl file indicates a long drive challenge game.
  • Copy the custom challenge game into the RoundStats folder on a different simulator.
  • To start the game, go to the closest to pin or long drive challenge setup screen on that simulator. 
  • You will see the custom challenge game listed and available for play in the Saved Custom Challenges window.

Custom Challenge Games


 Delete Custom Challenge Games



  • To delete a custom challenge game, choose Utilities at the Main Menu.
  • Click on the list box under the File Type heading and select the Saved Chal CTP or Saved Chal LD option.
  • Highlight the custom challenge game you wish to delete in the window, and then click the Delete button.
  • Your custom challenge game will be deleted.

Challenge Game Interface



  • Top left:
  •   Player name, shot #, best shot, hole #, par, distance, elevation +/-.
  • Top Middle – Club Data (club icon):
  • On - Display Measured Club Speed and other club data.  
  • Note:  Measured Club Speed requires a club sticker.
  • Off (X) - Do not display club data. 
  • C - Display Calculated Club Speed but exclude other club data.
  • Note:  Calculated Club Speed does not require a club sticker.
  • Top Middle - 3-Trak Light Indicator (stop light image):
  •  Green - System armed - Optimal ball placement.
  •  Yellow - System armed – More than one ball at tee area or not optimal ball placement.
  •  Red - System NOT armed, ball not placed in tee area.
  • Top right:
  • Row 1: Timer, ? (Help), - (Minimize Game), X (Exit Game).
  • Row 2: Speaker Icon (Sound Menu), Home icon (Return to Main Menu), < (Go Back to Previous Screen), Flyby icon (Play a 3D fly through tour of the hole).
  • Right:
  • Hide UI - Hides all ui information on screen.
  • Call Aide - Notify aG Control attendant for help.
  • Midway left – Hole Overhead View:
  • Click on the hole view to get an expanded overhead view. 
  • Note: Turn on/off the hole view by changing the Top View option at the Utilities screen.
  • Bottom left:
  •  Wind - Speed and direction of wind. 
  • Lie - Lie (terrain type) of players’  ball location.
  • Bottom - Toolbar Options:
  • Advice - Click to hear advice for the current shot / ball location.
  • Options - Set game options.
  • Leaderboard - Click to view the hole or round results.
  • Aim - Use arrows to adjust aim and avoid obstacles or to change the default aim of your shot.
  • Grid - Change grid options.
  • Clubs - This option only displays if the Round Club Selection option is set to on or required at the Utilities screen.  Note:  The Clubs option is off by default.

Play Challenge Games



  • The starting hole and location for the game will be based on the challenge game selected.  
  • For Par 3 or Par 5 games, the starting location is based on the tees selected for that player.
  • For custom games, the starting location is based on the tees selected for the first hole.
  • The player up on the first hole is the first player displayed in the list at the Members screen. 
  • For the second and all subsequent holes, the first player up will be the top ranking player from the previous hole. 
  • For closest to pin games, a “marquee” animation displays directing the golfer to the pin location.
  • For long drive games, yardage lines on the terrain indicate the distance from the tees.

Play Challenge Games



  • If the golfer’s shot places in the top 3, their name will display with a colored medal in the event.
  • If the golfer’s shot does not place in the top 3, their name will display with a white cone indicating they did not place for that hole. 
  • Points are awarded for the hole based on either distance or rank scoring.
  • If distance scoring is selected, points are awarded based on the actual distance of the player’s shot.
  • For a closest to pin game: The player with the lowest number of points overall wins the game.
  • For a long drive game: The player with the highest number of points overall wins the game.
  • If distance scoring is selected and a player’s shot is invalid, 100 points will be added to the total.
  • If rank scoring is selected, points are awarded based on the player’s ranking for that hole. The player with the highest overall accumulated points wins the game.
  • For a closest to pin game:  The player with the lowest distance for the hole wins first place and the most points. 
  • For a long drive game:  The player with the highest distance for the hole wins first place and the most points.
  • If  rank scoring is selected and the player’s shot is invalid, no points are awarded.
  • For Closest to Pin Games:
  • Colored rings are drawn on the terrain if the shot is within 60 feet of the pin for the top 3.
  • Colored rings are also drawn on the top view if the shot is within 100 feet of the pin.

Play Challenge Games



  • The following shots are considered invalid for a challenge game:
  • Out of bounds shots.
  • Forced drop shots - which include shots that end up in the water or unplayable terrain.
  • For long drive events, the shot must land in the fairway, approach, fairway/rough or green to be considered valid if the Fairway Required option is set to yes.




Challenge Game Post Shot


Once the golfer has completed their shot, the Post Shot menu will display on the screen with the following information:


Top Middle


  • Place Ranking (top) - For First, Second, and Third Place shots only.
  • Golfer’s name (below place ranking) - Displays golfer’s name, shot number and distance.
  • Hole Standings (below golfer name) - Displays all players that have taken their shot - plus their distance and points won.
  • Current Standings - Displays after all players have taken their shots for the hole and shows the total points won thus far for all holes played. 
  • Note: Current Standings will display for all holes except the first and last hole of a game.
  • Winner - At the end of the game, the winning player and points won are displayed.
  • Final Results - After the winner is displayed, the final standings for all players is displayed.


Bottom Toolbar


  • 3Trak - Go to the 3Trak screen.
  • Save Shot - Click to save the shot just taken to replay later.
  • Replay - Replay the current shot with several view options including: Forward, Reverse, TV Camera, Reverse Ball Cam, Ball Cam.
  • Mulligan - This option will display if set to Yes at the challenge games setup screen.  
  • Hit Again - If the player has remaining shots to take, they will have the option to Hit Again to try to better their score. Note:  Set the shot limit to a value > 1 at the setup screen to see this option.
  • Next Player - If there are more players to take shots for the hole,  select the next player up. 
  • Continue - If there are no more players to take shots, choose Continue to go to the next hole, or if no more holes remain, choose Continue to display the winner and final results for the event.
